My experience of Stevenson College has been a very good one. When I started this course I thought I was confident, but it became apparent that academically I was not. At some points I even thought that maybe I wouldn’t be able to cope with the course, and I thought that I had illusions of grandeur to think that I would ever be able to get to university. However, here I am 9 months later, motivated and desperate to get into University. I have a thirst for knowledge and the confidence in myself to pursue a master’s degree. I first applied for the BA in Religious Studies, however, since then I have changed my mind and I changed the course to the MA Religious Studies, as I feel it is something I can accomplish.
All of the lecturers have been great. They have been very supportive and caring. Alicia has been especially good for me as, to be honest, I have always hated Languages and she has made learning Spanish bearable and even enjoyable. Her teaching style is very good, as she makes you feel relaxed and she always concentrates on the positive points.
I don’t know how the course could improve. I thought the course has been fantastic in comparison to the college I went to when I was eighteen. The college I went to then had literally no facilities and we spent the year in a hut! I was so excited when I seen the fancy computerised boards used in the rooms. However, in saying that, too much technology can be a bad thing as, especially in History this tended to interfere with class work as sometimes the computer didn’t work properly. Moreover, when this happened and we wanted to watch a documentary we would have to get the TV and the videos or DVD’s were not always up to par, which was a hindrance.
I think my performance throughout the year has been quite good. I have handed in my work in time and I have completed it to the best of my ability. I could have done far better in Spanish, and I would have learned more if I stuck to my targets on my blog more thoroughly. Planning study time is imperative and evaluating how much you have learned is also, this may have been too little too late. However, the positive side to this is that I now know how important it is, and I will endeavour to do this when I start university.
Throughout the course I have learned that I am capable of going to University and completing the course. With more commitment and more motivation I feel that I could have done a lot better in the course and I am not going to fall into the trap of being idle at times again. I have also learned that I d get along with most people and that education is really important. Not only because you may gets a better job, but because it teaches you good life skills, and it is a great experience ansd it makes you a more well rounded person. I can’t wait until I am at the University of Edinburgh!

I am doing my investagation on "Wht caused the reformation?". I have did some reading about it but I do have to prepare a detailed plan. Emma is going to help me with this on Wed and I am going to study this for a couple of hours on Tuesday.

The I need to concentrate on my compartitive Essay between the 'Heart Of Darkness' and ' The love song by Alfred Prufrock'. I think thats all I need to do for Lit. No offers yet.BADTIMES. No declines.GOODTIMES.
I have had a very productive week this week. I have one more assessment to do for English, the Susan Greenfield presentation. I am planning to do that today and I have chosen the topics for all of my talks and I am also made a start on my smart targets for Jordi. I have disapoionted myself as I have only did a miniscule amount of Maths.
History
I have yet to get a question for my investagation. I woulf like to do something about religion, something that I do not know much about so I can have the oppertunitie to learn something new. I will speak to Evan about this on Friday as I have been struggling to come up with a question.
English
I just need to get the Susan Greenfield thing done today. Then I just need to concentrate on my "introduction" talk which I have chosen to do on how to make "Murga" a middle eastern dish(This will get dont on Tuesday. It should only take me about half an hour). It should be easy as I know how to make it and I have grown more confident in talking in front of the class. Me, lee and Norman are doing a group dicussion on the army/army cadets and our experiences and reasons why people may want to join the army.
Lit
I have to read the "heart of darkness" by tommorrow and I am sooo behind. I need to finish that by tonight and I am only on page 25. The good thing is, is that I think ia m actually getting interested in the book now.
Spanish
I didnt stick to any of the Spanish targets I gave myself last week. I did go over swe vocabulary and I decided what I was going talk about, that was only for an hour yesterday. So my target for this week is. On Tuesday and Wednesday I hope to study for an hour each night and if i do more this will be a bonus. I have to set myself an acheivable target otherwise I will do nothing at all.
Maths
I am going to do maths for 45 mins each night. This is a must !!!!

Lit
I am going to read up to page 24 in the book we got. I did read some of it but I am finding it hard to motivate myself to read it as I find it dull.
I was ill last week so I didnt do any studying. I do have a desk in my room but i didnt use it as I used to table in the living room. But last night I cleared outt the desk and orgainised my work and made a timetable. Having my own wee area has made me look forward to getting home tonight and studying. I still havent completed the maths yet as I have been avoiding is asd I do find it very difficult, maths is very scary to me. I dont think there is any way of making it easier for me to do. So I'll just have to bite the bullet and just do it.

Spanish
Omg, starting to get really worried about Spanish. Started doing past tense. So I really need to learn conjegations off by heart, including the present tense! Last time I wa sin Spaniosh I got a grammer book so I would like to do at least 4 exercises this week and know spend 30 minutes per night to get the conjegations into my head!
History
We did our first exam in History on Friday. The night before I spent just less than 3 hours studying and I felt really confident on the day of the exam. I think I have passed, so now I am just lookin forward to the next topics. Which is all about Europe and we are going way back to the Greeks and the Romans. Interesting stuff :)
Litreture
More poetry. I need to watch a video on youtube for my homework. Happy days.
Study Skills
Last week we had a last minute talk to do in the class. I was actually quite proud of myself. I was a bit nervous but I fell that I coped well with it. I have seen a huge difference in my level of confidence since starting the course. I felt more nervous doing the investagating europe talk, but I feel I will be better in futre presentaions. It was really benificial watching other people doing their talks as I could see there strengths and weaknesses and I made mental notes for myself. As to what to do and not to do.
English
This week I have to finish my "Age Of Genius" assessment. I will spend 2 hours doing this on Wednesday. Also the last time we were in English we watched Dragons Den. Result. And then we picked an object that we "invented" mines was a mop. We had to go into the front of the class and sell it. It was alot of fun. Again, I felt apprehensive about going first but I did feel confident doing it. And I came second after the fantastic Andy Pandy.

History
I have got back on track as I have handed in my History Essay and I have another one to hand in on Friday about the labour goverment. I am going to make a start on that tonight for 2 hours and tommorrow one hour and three hours on Wednesday.
English
I have done everything in English and I am looking forward to tackling to new outcomes.
English Lit
Everything is all handed in for English Lit and I just need to look out a peom of short story which I like very much. I need to get feed back on an essay I did on comparisons between "Dulceet Decorum Est" and "Secrets".
Investagating Europe
Everything is all done for this subject. I got feedback for my project and it was pretty good and I did my presentation which I was very nervous about but it went very well.
Maths
I am soooooooooo behind in maths. I plan to set aside an hour a night to study for maths and I am going to get my husband to help me with it so I can at least do the 3rd assessment on Friday . I have emailed John regarding this and hopefully I can speak to him and arrange time to get these assessments finished.
Spanish
I have neglected my spanish studies for the past little while but I have been passing assessments first time which I am quite proud of. At the moment my priority is getting my maths finished. I have looked over my vocabulary and did my homewoork on time but I do have to set atleaset 30 minutes per night to Spanish as its going to become more challenging this semister.

New Term
Starting the new term has made me reflect on what I have gained from the course so far.
I feel that my confidence has grown immensely and I have also acquired more skills. I have improved in my essay writing as we do allot of essays in History. I am able to plan my essays therefore the structure of them are far better, and English has helped me to improve my grammar. I have also realised that time management is imperative as I did leave a few things to the last minute whilst doing my investagating Europe project and my presentation. Although I handed everything in on time I do feel that with better time management I could have produced a better quality of work.
This term I plan to listen to Spanish tutorials that I have on my mp3 player to familiarise myself more with pronunciation. I will be able to do this whilst travelling back and forth from college.
I really need to spend as much time as possible to do maths as I am behind with it and I think there is only about a week left in the course so I really need to motivate myself to go to the drop in centre and I need to designate time to do the booklets in the evenings. I will need to do at least an hour a night to complete the course on time.
Other than that everything thing seems to be running smoothly although I am a little bit behind in history as I haven’t yet finished my last essay and I must do an essay for literature that I haven’t done yet either. I am going to plan my literature essay to night and hope fully I will be able to finish it.

Other than that everything thing seems to be running smoothly although I am a little bit behind in history as I haven’t yet finished my last essay and I must do an essay for literature that I haven’t done yet either. I am going to plan my literature essay to night and hope fully I will be able to finish it.
